Since one of the top community survey requests was for living wage jobs, a team was formed to examine ways to develop employment opportunities and prepare candidates for the jobs. Using a local employment development agency, potential candidates were pre-screened and received job training. The first business to open was Food 4 Less, which is staffed by union workers. The team worked with the local union to reach an accord in which residents would be eligible to work for the store and join the union. On opening day, 91 percent of the store's employees were from the community.

Since then, other Market Creek Plaza businesses have worked to staff their businesses with local residents. Many of the Wells Fargo employees are from the community, and they speak four of the languages in this area: English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Laotian.

In all, the Plaza's 11 businesses have created 200 new jobs in the community.
